Second Saturdays

Second Saturdays is a ministry of men to widows, widowers and single moms in our congregation and community. We meet once a month for 3 hours (8:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.) on the Second Saturday of the month. On service days, all the teams meet at Centerville Church at 8:00 a.m. for a devotional, prayer and last minute planning. After assessing the needs, the men split into their teams and head out to work at the homes of their care receivers for approximately 2 hours.  The work consists of basic chores that the receiver is unable to do on their own.  Tasks include raking leaves, painting, cleaning out basements or attics, and many other chores as well.  No particular skills are necessary, just a willing heart to serve.  Each month the team returns to the same home builiding a lasting relationship with the receiver.

At the end of the day, the men pray for the care receiver, their family, as well as for the neighborhood where they live.  Care receivers are encouraged to make the service available to others they know are in need, especially their neighbors. In this way, teams begin to minister and reach out to others in the neighborhood.
